Roadmap to the Campaign:
6 Steps from Memory to Action to Resist Fascism and Right-Wing Populism

1

Exchange information about the history of the past genocides and war victims with your close ones to keep the memorial and remembrance culture alive

Why it matters

History is a living memory carried by people, not just in textbooks. Sharing stories keeps memories alive and makes them meaningful for today and tomorrow.

What you can do

  • Talk with family, friends, and communities about past struggles and resilience

  • Learn from intergenerational dialogue and pass it forward

  • Recognise diverse perspectives to challenge prejudice and build respect

  • Use storytelling as a tool to connect memory with today’s challenges and shape a just future

MEMORY.png

Why it matters

Remembering the Holocaust is more than looking at the past – it is a duty to victims and a responsibility for the future. Schools and youth spaces are where memory becomes alive through education, helping young people resist and fight against violence.

What you can do

  • Organise visits to memorial sites and museums

  • Host meetings with survivors or historians

  • Create workshops and artistic projects in schools

  • Promote joint initiatives between schools and local communities

  • Dedicate regular days to reflection and remembrance

Take action to organise along with educational institutes, memorial visits, meetings and workshops.

3

Safe guard your resilience against Discrimination, hate speech, and harmful stereotypes.

Why it matters

Discrimination and hate speech fuel some of the darkest chapters of history. Memorial sites bear witness to some of the darkest narratives of our civilisation. Combating discrimination and hate speech requires education, awareness, and support.

What you can do

  • Take part in workshops, online campaigns, or initiatives against hate speech

  • Organise or join seminars, exhibitions, or discussions on the Holocaust and genocides

  • Use social media or events to share stories and resources

  • Support victims of discrimination through local organisations, counselling, and safe spaces

Why it matters

Critical engagement grows through non-formal education activities such as youth projects, exchanges, and collaborations that encourage respect and inclusion.

What you can do

  • Support youth organisations promoting inclusion, awareness, and participation

  • Take part in exchange programs to explore new perspectives and visit concentration camps or memorial sites

  • Encourage active participation of all communities, making sure every voice is heard

  • Celebrate cultural diversity by creating empowering, inclusive spaces

Engage in youth projects to boost opportunities, awareness and participation

5

Act for a humanistic Economy!

Why it matters

Capitalism follows exploitation and profit for the few, valuing people only by their “usefulness.” This mirrors nationalist ideologies that divide people into “valuable” and “less valuable.” The result is an unequal, anti-humanistic system.

What you can do

  • Support groups where the common good matters more than profit (food-sharing, community gardens)

  • Write letters and petitions to demand change from decision-makers

  • Avoid companies profiting from exploitation or human rights violations, and support fair alternatives instead

  • Learn about the links between capitalism and nationalism (war industry, inequality, exploitation)

EAT THE RICH.png

Why it matters

Since the political situation in Europe is getting more right-wing (extremist) every year, we need to act! We need to preserve the right to live a worthful life for everyone and ensure that things like the Holocaust will not happen again.

This cannot only be done in your own circle; politics plays a huge role. Alone, it feels hard, but together we are stronger.

What you can do

  • Go to manifestations (alone or with your friends)

  • Sign petitions about the topic

  • Sign up for a political party that aligns with your values and support them

  • Search for groups/collectives already working on these topics and join them

  • If no structures exist in your area, start one with friends (e.g. manifestation, workshop, public event)

Stop(.) Remember(,) React(-)

RE:ACTION started with a simple but powerful idea: to explore the past in order to better understand and change the present. Young people from Italy, Germany, and the Czech Republic came together with the support of the EVZ Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and Future"  to dive into the history of National Socialist crimes and reflect on how similar dynamics still affect our societies today. It's about memory, but also about activism, creativity, and standing up for human rights.

Our project's Final phase
Our Campaign_

We kick off by visiting remembrance sites in our own countries, where we learn about different groups who were persecuted. Then, we all meet in Mauthausen to share what we’ve discovered and reflect on the similarities and differences in how each country remembers the past. After that, it’s time for action: we create posters, stickers, social media posts, and a podcast to raise awareness and bring the conversation into the public space.

Joining our events, following and sharing our campaign online, collaborating with our partner organizations, or simply spreading the message. Whether you're into history, activism, design, or just care about making a difference—there’s a place for you in RE:ACTION. Let’s remember, reflect, and react together.
